Hey Reader, Can you guess the #1 wellness challenge for women over 40? I struggled with it for most of my adult life. I still struggle with it. But now I think the struggle is mental and has more to do with me accepting myself the way I am and not wanting to change anything about how I look. Have you guessed? Yup, you're right. The number one wellness challenge that women over 40 struggle with is their weight. (This isn't based on scientific data but more on my anecdotal research - please tell me if you disagree).
I'm wondering if our supposed "weight management challenge" is that so many of us 40+ women really NEED to lose weight for our health OR we just want to lose weight to fit an ideal image in our heads - some image of what we think we're supposed to look like. For me, it was mainly the latter. I always wanted to be skinnier, have longer, thinner legs and smaller boobs. Probably came from years as a dancer where most other dancers in the room were super skinny with almost no boobs. Makes me a bit sad really to think how many years I struggled with not liking how I looked, and self-acceptance. Though it's not nearly as intense as it used to be, I still do. I am making progress. What do you think? Do you think this "weight management challenge" that we women over 40 struggle with is really about women NEEDING to lose weight for their health or is it more that women WANT to lose weight to look a certain way?
