Hey Reader, Have you ever had weird muscle aches or pains that seem to have no explanation? I have! Super annoying and scary! I was talking to a friend yesterday and she started talking about the same thing - having unexplained muscle and joint pains that seem to come out of nowhere without any obvious cause. She checked it out with her doctor and it turns out in her case it's a menopause symptom. Did you know that declining estrogen can cause generalised muscle aches and pains in the body? There are literally over 100 menopause symptoms and this is one of them! It's so annoying that we as women aren't better prepared for all these weird menopause symptoms! We're prepared up the wazoo for menstruation but when it comes to menopause, crickets! The good news is, we can do things to help ourselves! According to the Cleveland Clinic, "You can’t avoid drops in estrogen associated with getting older. You can put healthy habits into place that lead to overall balance in your life – including more balanced hormones." Need I say yoga is a great healthy habit! 😊 One of the things we can do is eat more plant-based estrogen foods. Phytoestrogens are plant-based estrogens. Some studies suggest that eating foods that contain phytoestrogens helps with menopause symptoms like hot flashes. Some phytoestrogens may also help promote heart health, bone health and skin elasticity. More research is needed to know for sure. Foods that contain phytoestrogens include:
So the next time you're freaked out by some new weird body symptom that seems to have no explanation, consider whether it could be a menopause symptom. It very well could be!
